OCSO Recognizes Officer Who Gave Ultimate Sacrifice Over Three Decades Ago

During National Police Officer Week in 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day as a special recognition day for law enforcement officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty for the safety and protection of others.

Deputy David H. Whittier E.O.W. September 8, 1989

In 1989 Deputy David H. Whittier had succumbed to injuries sustained earlier in the year when he was struck by a drunk driver while on duty. During the collision, Deputy Whittier was pinned between an abandoned vehicle and the suspect’s vehicle.

Deputy Whittier will always be remembered for his sacrifice, diligence, dedication and service to our community. He was survived by his wife Connie, and two children, Kellie and Thad. The Whittier family continues to remain in our thought and prayers.
