Republican Shawn Foti Running to Succeed Legislator John Syracuse
Shawn A. Foti has formally announced his run for Niagara County Legislator this November, replacing current Legislator John Syracuse. Syracuse has announced he will not seek re-election in order to run for Newfane Town Supervisor.
“I am a lifelong resident of this district. My wife and I are raising our family here and we are fully invested in our community,” said Foti. “John Syracuse has been a leader we can all admire and I hope to follow his footsteps in proudly representing Newfane, Somerset and part of Lockport.”
Foti serves as a member on the Town of Newfane Planning Board, and is also a 14-year active member of Miller Hose Fire Company where he has held positions of head trustee, interior firefighter, and equipment operator. He is also a 9-year current member, and past president of the Newfane Lions Club and is active in the Wilson Conservation Club.
“Preserving our great outdoors, agricultural land and protecting our natural resources are very important to me,” said Foti. “I am deeply concerned about Albany Democrats trampling on local home rule by forcing massive power projects on farmland that our citizens are opposed to. Our voices must be heard and that’s why I fully support the repeal of Article 10 and 94 which have torn our communities apart, crushed local control, and attack our agricultural heritage.”
“Living by Lake Ontario and in Newfane, I am a very active outdoorsman and love to hunt and fish,” said Foti. “Democrats in Washington D.C. and Albany continue to chip away at 2nd Amendment rights. As a Niagara County Legislator, I will steadfastly defend an individual’s 2nd Amendment rights and work closely with our County Clerk Joe Jastrzemski to assist pistol permit owners with easy and efficient access for renewals. I will also work with local gun rights groups and conservation clubs to expand youth shooting sports clubs, hunter safety classes, and new firearm owner safety classes.”
Foti is a construction project manager with Clark Rigging and Rental, working there for 12 years. He is a 2004 graduate of Newfane High School, holds an Associate’s Degree in Mechanical Technology from NCCC and a Bachelor’s Degree from Buffalo State in Mechanical Engineering Tech.
Foti said his message to voters is simple:
“Our community has tremendous assets but also faces tremendous challenges. We want families moving here. We want the Barker and Newfane school districts growing. We want living wage jobs and economic growth. I believe that my experience as a project manager in the private sector will help bring a new perspective to the Niagara County Legislature and help obtain these goals, especially in capital needs, rebuilding our roads and bridges, expanding skilled trade training and job placement, and ensuring cost effective and efficient county services.”
Tourism is another focus of Foti’s campaign to improve overall quality of life issues. “The 14th District consists of miles of lakefront and a bustling wine trail. As the COVID-19 pandemic winds down, I will work with the tourism industry and private business owners to promote our world class fishing industry, wineries, agri-tourism venues, County parks, carousel park, and all of our hidden gems for visitors to enjoy.” Foti continued, “It would be an honor and privilege to be your voice on the Niagara County Legislature.”
Foti is the endorsed Republican and Conservative candidate and resides in the Town of Newfane with his wife Kim and three-year-old son, Andrew.
