The Early Childhood Education program at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center recently had a special guest speaker. The School Resource Officer, Niagara County Sheriff Deputy Benjamin Eodice, volunteered to read a story for the virtual story time for their preschool.
Teacher Laura Koeppel says her students have been running their preschool virtually and have been doing an outstanding job preparing activities for parents to pick up to do with their children and also recording programs for stories, circle time, songs and online activities by using the Seesaw app to engage with the children. “The students have been awesome with using the technology to connect and we are really looking forward to seeing the children in person for the 2021-2022 school year!”
Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti commented on his office’s participation. “Community involvement is a priority for the Sheriff’s Office. Interacting with kids in the community helps build relationships and knock down barriers. I never want children to be afraid of our deputies, we are here to help. We need to be involved in the community we serve. This is a great opportunity for our SRO to make those relationships.”
