Lockport – 5th Ward resident, Kristin Kugler-Barnard declared her candidacy for the 5th Ward City Council position this week.
Kugler-Barnard seeks to reign in City spending to eliminate future property tax increases and attract families and businesses to the City. Kugler-Barnard stated, “As a life-long resident of the City of Lockport, I have witnessed continual property tax increases that drive families out of the City. As 5th Ward Alderwoman, I will prioritize responsible budgeting to negate the need for annual property tax increases.” She continued, “I will advocate for shared-services agreements with Niagara County and neighboring municipalities to also help control costs.”
In addition to reigning in property taxes, Kugler-Barnard vows to continue to support the 5th Ward residents against the proposed Cazenovia drug rehabilitation project proposed for the Niagara County Infirmary Davison Road site. Kugler-Barnard stated, “The services provided by Cazenovia are admirable, but the Cazenovia drug rehab project does not belong in a residential neighborhood, period. As the 5th Ward Alderwoman, I will continue to lead the opposition to this misplaced development.”
Kugler-Barnard also seeks to improve the City park system and provide more recreation activities to the residents and youth of the City of Lockport. Kugler-Barnard was born and raised in the 5th Ward, where she resides with her husband, Adam. She is a full-time physical therapist for Catholic Health at Mount St. Mary’s and an adjunct faculty at Daemen College. Her experience as a health care provider has afforded her the opportunity to work with a diverse population, listen to their concerns, and help to find resolutions for their ailments.
