New Years Eve Stays Mostly Quiet in Buffalo

The 33rd annual Buffalo ball drop at the Electric Tower gave a spectacular fireworks display with few to see it live. Streets surrounding the historic building were blocked off by heavy security, with mostly media and law enforcement only allowed to pass by the barriers.

“In a year of cancellations, there is one party that can’t be postponed,” said Mayor Byron Brown earlier this week, referencing a New Year’s Eve virtual Goo Goo Dolls performance.

Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said: “On behalf of my team in Erie County, I hope everyone has a very safe and Happy New Year. To our team in Erie County, thank you for all your hard work in 2020, and to the greater community, thank you for your efforts to protect your neighbors this past year. Be safe and well!”
