During a recent round of testing at the Niagara County Correctional Facility, 12 inmates tested positive for the coronavirus, said NCSO in a press release on Wednesday.
All inmates that tested positive are doing well, currently asymptomatic and have been isolated. To date, 156 inmates have been tested. The current inmate population is 284.
The NCSO is coordinating with Niagara County Health Department and their medical provider to ensure all protocols are followed related to recent positive cases.
Throughout the pandemic, NCSO have followed guidance from the CDC, NYS Health Department, NYS Commission of Corrections and Niagara County Health Department. Further testing will be conducted for staff and inmates as deemed appropriate by guidance and tracing.
“The safety of our staff, inmates in our facility and the general public have been at the forefront of every decision made regarding our operations. Minimizing the effects of COVID-19 remains a top priority for this office,” said Sheriff Filicetti.
