New York’s Population Decline Tops Every Other State

According to figures released Tuesday by the U.S. Census Bureau, New York State has seen the largest population decline in the country. New York’s population fell by 126,355 people between July 2019 and July 2020, to 19.3 million, a drop of 0.65%.

At the current rate, during the reapportionment of 2022, New York State could lose two seats in the U.S. House of Representatives, according to the current numbers, it will certainly lose one, dropping it from 27 to 26 seats, possibly effecting influence in Washington D.C.
