Albion Fire Tears through Residential Neighborhood, One Hospitalization Reported

ALBION — Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians from around Orleans and Monroe Counties were called into action today, after a fire that started in a garage at 221 West State Street spread into the main house and then onto the neighbors.

Albion Firefighters received the call at 4:30 p.m. The situation quickly prompted the need for backup.

An unidentified individual was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital for smoke inhalation and a perforated eardrum.

The home and garage where the fire started on the corner of East Academy and West State St. was completely destroyed.

The neighboring home on East Academy St. took significant damage with the attic and second floor being severely impacted before firefighters could extinguish the flames. The neighboring home on West State St. was also reported to take some damage.

In total, firefighters from Holley, Ridgeway, Shelby, Albion, among others, were required to stem the flames. The origin of the fire is currently under investigation.
