John Restaino, lead broadcaster for Citizens United operating in Niagara County, announced a split from YoWOWa media production group over the weekend. The group, which covers a variety of general to hot button topics, announced that with this change comes the beginning of their own production enterprise, leading them to relocate for Lockport.
In an interview with Restaino, he explained, “Right now, four people are involved in the starting of our company. We have numerous podcasts ready to go, once we have our equipment all set up in the new Lockport location.” On his media group’s mission statement, Restaino said, “We try to call out corruption. We do that locally, mostly, but keeping an eye on state and national politics.”
Restaino, who states he was fired from WJJL in 2013 due to his “honesty about local Niagara County politics” said that the response to a Niagara County oriented podcast has been great. The Citizens United podcast began their endeavor in June of this year. He noted, “The community response has been outstanding. We have had plenty of viewers to our weekly show. We are receiving tremendous feedback.”
