Orleans County District Attorney Joe Cardone dismissed charges Wednesday against a former corrections officer. James Castonguay, 30, who was a former CO at the Albion Correctional Women’s Facility, was found dead in his Amherst home Tuesday. He was scheduled for sentencing at an Orleans County courthouse on Wednesday for multiple sex crimes against two female inmates.
Castonguay had been charged in 2019 by State Police, and further, pleaded guilty in August of this year. He had been one of several corrections officers named in a $25 million lawsuit against multiple facilities. The cases dismissal is a customary practice when any defendant dies before proceedings are concluded.
