NCSO Releases Reminder to Watch Out for School Buses, Gives Roadway Guidance on Keeping Kids Safe

The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office released a statement today, aiming to provide area drivers with a reminder on New York State Law when encountering school buses on the road.

The NCSO stated in their release, “Don’t forget that school starts this week for most districts! Give yourself extra time for your commute, as buses will be out picking up students. Please remember to stop for school bus red lights!”

Additionally, the NCSO outlined some school bus passing laws, noting, “NYS law prohibits vehicles from passing school buses with flashing red lights: 1. in a parking lot, 2. on school grounds, 3. on a multiple lane roadway, and 4. on the opposite side of a divided highway.”
