WNY HEROES TEAMS UP WITH NIAGARA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE TO FIGHT HUNGER AMONGST VETERANS

WNYHeroes, Inc. tagged the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office to partner in providing food for area veterans Tuesday afternoon.  “We did this two weeks ago with the Buffalo Police.  We wanted to do the same thing with the Niagara County Sheriff’s,” said Chris Kreiger, President and Co-Founder of the organization.

Kreiger listed the variety of services WNYHeroes, Inc. provides, stating, “Our primary function is to offer financial assistance to the men and women who served.  Where we can financially assist them with their rent, mortgage, utilities, and food on the table.  We also provide service dogs free of charge for veterans.”

Partnering with area law enforcement was a socially conscious choice, Kreiger explained, “An initiative we have is to show the community that law enforcement isn’t as bad as everyone tries to make them seem.  They really are no different than anyone else.  They live right here.  They could be your neighbor.”

Explaining the framework of WNYHeroes Inc., Kreiger said, “We do it all out of Williamsville with a staff of 5 people.  It’s all through fundraising and donations.”

Niagara County Sheriff Michael Filicetti discussed how his office aided with distribution, explaining, “Basically, what we are doing is helping to provide some manpower.  Help pick up food, get it there, help hand it out, check I.D. to make sure everyone is a veteran.” He added, “It has been a huge success.  There’s a lot of people here.”
