Wilson Mayor Aims to Resolve Property Neglect, Sets Public Meeting to Discuss Updating Laws

Village of Wilson Mayor Arthur Lawson is determined to keep the lakeside municipality looking tiptop for the benefit of all who live there.  In his weekly letter to the voters, Lawson explained this point of view, and his intentions to see it realized.  Lawson declared,

“The role of Village Code Enforcement is to promote, protect, and improve the health, safety, and welfare of the Citizens of the Village of Wilson by investigating and successfully resolving reported code violations.  The Code Enforcement Officer prefers to educate the public about the code first, and to obtain voluntary compliance on all issues through a professional and courteous manner.

“As we wrap up the 2020 summer, many of us have been busy cleaning and maintaining our properties.  With events like COVID-19 pandemic impacting our lives, the need for policies for preventing deteriorating properties grows exponentially.  Property neglect impacts the health and quality of life for all residents in the Village.

“On August 20, 2020, the Village will have a public hearing concerning updates for laws regarding noticeable violations that include:

  • Abandoned and unregistered vehicles.
  • Inattentive property maintenance.
  • Overgrown grass, weeds, and unkept property.

“My goal is to promote a high quality of life for our residents and for visitors to enjoy our village in a safe and healthy manner free of property neglect.  If you have any questions or if you are having difficulty with property maintenance, contact me directly at (716) 208 – 4568.”
