Newfane and Middleport Cancel Summer Recreation Programs for 2020

Both the Town of Newfane and The Village of Middleport in Niagara County have made the decision to cancel any regularly scheduled summer activities.

Statements from both municipalities provided below:

MIDDLEPORT:

“It is with deepest regret that the Board of Trustees of the Village of Middleport announced at last night’s meeting that, as lead municipality for the Royalton Hartland Summer Swim program, they find it necessary to cancel the 2020 program.

“The Village’s Summer Recreation Program has also been cancelled for 2020. The logistics of what would be required by the CDC and the Health Department regarding COVID-19 makes holding the programs nearly impossible. In addition, delays caused by the pandemic have held up repairs to the school pool, with needed parts not being available until mid-July at the earliest.

“Although we truly understand your frustration on hearing this, we hope you’ll be able to join us in 2021 for the programs!”

NEWFANE:

“During the COVID closures the Town of Newfane made the difficult decision to cancel the Summer Recreation Program this year. We understand this cancellation is profoundly disappointing after what already feels like an eternity of frustration and uncertainty. On behalf of all involved with the Town’s summer recreation program, we offer our sincere apologies. Thank you for your understanding. Stay safe and healthy.”
