Due to COVID-19, countless fundraisers for EMS and fire departments have been cancelled or postponed in the area, and as the state government faulters with revenue raised, local politicians are calling for action at the federal level.
Addressing this issue, Assemblyman Mike Norris (R,C,I,Ref-Lockport) posted as part of an online update, “Today I joined with Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay and my Assembly colleagues to request federal assistance for our volunteer fire and EMS departments, and I also sponsored a bill with full conference support requesting state assistance for the reimbursement of PPE and loss of fundraising revenue.”
Additionally, during a declaration earlier this morning, Norris remarked, “Countless brave and dedicated volunteer emergency workers are on the frontlines right now saving lives every day. Their contributions are immeasurable, and we must have their backs now more than ever. I urge the federal government to provide financial aid to assist our volunteer fire departments and EMS now.”
